From an early age, Kristina McCalla sensed a pull toward design. What began as a natural interest slowly revealed itself as something deeper—a gift she came to believe was not her own, but something entrusted to her to steward well and use in service to others.

She studied interior design in college, gained experience in high-end showrooms, and eventually built her own design business. Over time, she saw firsthand how environments can shape the way people live, heal, and feel. What once looked like a career path eventually became preparation for something much greater.

Kristina never expected that her baptism would completely reshape the direction of her life, but in that moment of surrender, a mission was placed on her heart. That day, the vision for what would become Rooted Interiors was born—a nonprofit created to walk alongside families emerging from homelessness and help them step into permanent housing with dignity, stability, and care.

What followed required a great deal of trust. With no prior nonprofit experience, Kristina moved forward one step at a time, leaning heavily on prayer, faith, and the belief that if God had given the vision, He would also make a way.

“Rooted Interiors was never meant to be built alone.”

From the beginning, Rooted Interiors has grown through the generosity of volunteers, donors, churches, businesses, and community partners who share the belief that every family deserves a safe, welcoming place to call home. Through signature Rooting Days, empty houses are transformed into thoughtfully furnished homes—offering not just furniture, but comfort, dignity, and hope. Today, Rooted Interiors partners with local organizations and referral agencies to serve families stepping into a new season of stability and renewal.

As the mission has grown, so has the community around it. What started as a calling has become a collaborative movement rooted in compassion, hospitality, and the power of home.

In addition to leading Rooted Interiors, Kristina remains deeply invested in her local community. She serves in leadership and advisory roles not out of ambition, but from a genuine desire to listen, learn, and contribute wherever she can. She currently serves as a Board Member for the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, a Board Member and Area Council Liaison for the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson County, and a Board Member for Family Promise of Athens. She is also an Associate Member of the Hoschton Downtown Development Authority, and a proud graduate of Leadership Jackson, where she remains connected through the alumni network.

At the heart of everything Kristina does is a simple conviction: to serve faithfully, lead with compassion, and create space for others to step into hope.

She believes the work of Rooted Interiors—and the work of community itself—is not about one person, but about a collective calling to care for one another well. Her life and leadership continue to be shaped by Galatians 6:2:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
